CANON-POINT: Post-Galopoula invasion
DOSSIER
HISTORY: Wiki + character
After the invasion, Izumi observes the B-Rank rank wars. During one of Tamakoma-2's matches, he praises Chika's potential despite the criticisms of his former student, Ninomiya. Izumi asserts that Tamakoma-2 has nothing on his own Tachikawa Squad, but that he still has high hopes for them. Afterward, he tutors Mikumo on the pros and cons of Shooters, and coerces Yuiga into cooperating as Mikumo's sparring partner to illustrate his points.
When Galopoula invades, Izumi remains at headquarters as a guest commentator for the upcoming rank match.
WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S STRENGTHS?: As a proud boy of 17 years, Izumi's confidence renders him virtually unflappable. That's not to say he's arrogant, for very little manages to throw him off his game beyond muted frustration. Described as the "genius type" in his profile, Izumi's creativity and thinking outside the box serve as a great boon to him in both battle and noncombat situations, contributing to his carefree attitude. When he dedicates himself to an activity, he's known to achieve awesome results; however, rather than boast about his stroke of genius, he acts on total awareness of his strengths and weaknesses.
Izumi also tackles life with the mentality that the glass is half full. His optimism and subsequent leniency with people make him generally pleasant company for others, and he always looks on the bright side when mentoring his peers, during which he's patient, supportive, but realistic. All in all, he's a nice kid with a few rough edges here and there.
WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S WEAKNESSES?: Most of Izumi's flaws and weaknesses stem from his age. Sometimes abrasive due to his brutal honesty, he can be clumsy, if not outright reckless – when he suggests leveling an abandoned neighborhood, a teammate has to remind him of the families who had to leave behind their homes. However, while he has no problem praising one person and badmouthing another in the same breath (i.e., Yuiga is the worst teammate and nobody would disagree with this statement, and yet Izumi is stuck babysitting him), the worst he ever achieves is name calling. In addition to all of this, as well as his questionable fashion choices and overall teenage demeanor – being sloppy with the upkeep of his squad room and having a one-track mind – Izumi is quite the grumbling sore loser in the heat of the moment.
WHAT EVENTS OR CIRCUMSTANCES IN YOUR CHARACTER'S PAST HAVE IMPACTED THEM THE MOST?: Izumi doesn't have a tragic background that we know of, but the Neighbor's invasion of Mikado City has influenced his direction in life. Everything he is now - an accomplished Shooter and the founder of Composite Bullets, as well as a top-ranking agent of Tachikawa Squad - is due to the first large-scale invasion.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOUR CHARACTER?: He has no grand motive, only the basic desires to win and live day-to-day as a teenage boy does.
WHAT IMPRESSION DO OTHERS TEND TO HAVE OF YOUR CHARACTER?: Everyone associates Izumi with Border's strongest and the bullets he shoots; he isn't ranked No. 1 Shooter, but even the guy who holds the title begs him for lessons. Those closer to him will go as far as to say that he has bullets for a brain, while others might complain that he's too blunt. At the end of the day, though, everyone finds him to be the most reliable expert in his field. The easygoing idiot who'll shamelessly go to a family restaurant by himself to gorge on croquettes.
IN WHAT WAYS DOES THAT IMPRESSION DIFFER FROM WHO YOUR CHARACTER REALLY IS?: He isn't actually that stupid (his grades are a smidgen above average). It's more that he can be appropriately juvenile for his age, like having a laughable preoccupation with meat and his lack of delicacy when it comes to wanting to bomb people's homes. Otherwise, the impressions are spot-on.
HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER HANDLE CRISIS OR ADVERSITY?: As a general rule, Izumi stays levelheaded and seems to take all adversities in stride. He doesn't lose his head over an unexpected twist, although it can frustrate him after a while and make him rather mouthy to the instigator. In the case of battle, he maintains his cool and carefully analyzes the workings of his opponent's abilities, then strikes back accordingly.
WHICH 5 THINGS WILL YOUR CHARACTER REMEMBER UPON ARRIVAL, AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THEM?:
- He lives in Mikado City.
- He's a student attending a public school with a special affiliation to somewhere (Border).
- His family consists of his parents and an older sister.
- His squadmates are Tachikawa Kei, Kunichika Yu, and Yuiga Takeru.
- He's part of the "Idiot Trio" (himself, Yoneya, and Midorikawa).
These are facets of Izumi's life that cover his ordinary citizen profile with half of them suggesting that he's something more. I want him to remember the ordeal with Neighbors gradually, so that it's like rediscovering a chunk of his identity.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU FEEL WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?: Izumi is a member of Border's top-ranked squad, which participates in the expedition force. He regularly travels to alien worlds with the risk of being killed or kidnapped at any moment, and he still acts like a normal kid. That says a lot about him.
In case of potential confusion: his given name is Kohei. He always goes by his family name, hence his being referred to as "Izumi."
SKILLS, ABILITIES, & PHYSICAL WEAKNESSES: Izumi scores average in physical fitness with the majority of his prowess lying in borrowed technology from the Neighbors. Triggers are fueled by Trion, a type of energy produced by an invisible organ next to the heart, and specific chips are chosen by the user to fulfill various functions. Izumi's Triggers are almost all those of the Shooter designation, meaning they take on the shape of cube-shaped bullets (these can be combined to form the more potent Composite Bullets).
Shooters do not possess much in the way of raw power and are often relegated to support; however, Izumi boasts a prodigious amount of Trion and can go solo with strategic maneuvering and sheer firepower.
Triggers also hide the flesh body in the holder and supply the user with a Trion body. The Trion body is impervious to non-Trion damage, far superior to the human body, and has adjustable sensitivity so that the user doesn't feel pain. It also comes equipped with a communicator and Trion radar. Most importantly, its fatal weaknesses lie in the head and the chest, where the Trion relay and supply systems are stored – destruction of either system results in Trion leakage and the restoration of the flesh body.
