Character Info

◎ Character's Name: Kohei Izumi
◎ Character's Canon: World Trigger (manga)
◎ Character's Age: 17
◎ Canon Point: Post-Galopoula invasion
◎ Background/History: Wiki

After the invasion, Izumi watches the rank wars between B-Rank squads. He praises the potential Chika of Tamakoma-2 possesses; however, his former student, Ninomiya, criticizes her inability to shoot people. When asked if he believes Tamakoma-2 can match Tachikawa Squad, Izumi replies, "No way," but states his high hopes for them.

During the invasion from Galopoula, Izumi remains at headquarters as a guest commentator for the upcoming rank match.
◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? Nope

◎ Personality: Izumi is a teenage boy who's prone to noise and slapstick violence. Between referring to a close friend as an idiot and drop kicking a teammate for being rude to his guest, his shtick is friendly rough-and-tumble. He's also described by another character's mother as "rowdy" (at a hospital, no less), but for all of his racket Izumi remembers to be polite when addressing his elders.

A great portion of Izumi's behavior stems from his pride. If he loses a fight or sustains a hit, he verbalizes a strong desire to repay the person who did the damage in kind. Being a sore loser isn't his defining trait, but he tends to act on the sting of damaged pride, like snapping at Satori in a halfhearted tone upon losing the battle to Arashiyama Squad. Without flaunting the fact that he's A-Rank No. 1, he owns his squad's achievement and his place among the upper echelons of Border agents, and he's very self-assured about his abilities.

Brutal tactics are the hallmark of Tachikawa Squad: Izumi loves the exhilaration of bombarding the enemy and cares little for the state of the battlefield, whether it's a wasteland or a city – in fact, the more bullets and explosions, the better! It doesn’t take much to see Izumi’s social clumsiness when he’s willing to bomb people’s deserted homes to win a fight. That he created composite bullets by smashing together individual bullets speaks volumes about his teenage desire for more "boom,” as well as his creative talent for trying something new.

In spite of his harsh combat habits and pride, Izumi is a supportive and lenient person. As were the cases with Ninomiya and Mikumo, he'll mentor anyone who asks and uses his connections to bolster the learning experience. As a general rule, he favors the good after recognizing the bad in a situation, just as he defends Chika against Ninomiya's logical criticism after Tamakoma-2's rank match. His attitude with others reflects his mindset of looking at the glass as half full rather than half empty.

On the flip side, Izumi does have people he doesn't see eye to eye with or consider agreeable. While his relationship with Ninomiya is a positive example of "agreeing to disagree," he takes issue with Kitora's overbearing attitude and Yuiga's undeserved arrogance. It's not so bad that he'd pick a fight, but he bluntly voices his loud opinion of the former and tends to be much harsher with the latter in comparison to others (though it's less going out of his way to be mean and more of him just being very honest about Yuiga's abilities). Izumi is prone to speaking his mind, whether his opinion is flattering or not, so it's a good thing that his mind naturally leans toward the positive.

Izumi, however, is a teenager and the baby of his family at that, so it comes as no surprise that his squad room is a perpetually unholy mess. He fools around and plays video games with Kunichika in his spare time, leaving him with zero excuses for his disorganization. He's a kid who indulges in everyday life first and foremost, because he's got a match to watch and some fried shrimp to eat, dang it, and cleaning the room sounds boring. All in all, his proclivities reflect those of contemporary youth.

◎ Powers/Abilities: In his flesh body, Izumi isn't much to write home about. His genius shines with the Trigger, which swaps his flesh body with an imitation made of Trion.

Izumi uses Shooter Triggers, which suits the substantial amount of Trion he has to expend. Shooters channel their Trion into a cube that splits into block-shaped bullets. The bullets' strength, trajectory, and effect upon impact are decided by the exact Trigger applied:

  • Asteroid - Standard bullets that pack a punch
  • Meteora - Explosive bullets
  • Viper - Bullets whose trajectory is controlled real-time
  • Hound - Homing bullets
  • These can be combined to create composite bullets that boast greater firepower and effect. Composite bullets are Izumi's invention and specialty.

    Bullets rule!

Other Triggers Izumi has slotted are bagworm and shields.

As a combatant, Izumi is strong in mind with an eye for detail. He's flexible and quick on the uptake, though he isn't the best tactician and prefers a direct approach. His perception makes him an excellent unit for support, and he was strong enough to go head-to-head with a Black Trigger user on lame Trion legs and only himself on the direct front line.

◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory: Street clothes and Trigger

    CEREALIA-Specific

◎ Element: Water - Izumi’s family name means "flood," and his adaptability as a support unit reflects this element.
◎ Sense: Taste - Boy loves to eat. He's always eating. He doesn't stop.
    ◎ Seven Character Traits: ( adaptable, optimistic, perceptive ) | ( clumsy, disorderly, reckless ) + proud

    Samples

    ◎ First-Person Sample:
    Take that, virus freak!

◎ Third-Person Sample: That day, Izumi forgot his money – that was to say, he had no idea whether he'd deposited his paycheck or not. The screen of his phone told him that he hadn't, however, and he began to search his pockets for the misplaced envelope. It was a truly agonizing moment before the entrance of a family restaurant with Yoneya standing there and watching with a self-satisfied grin.

He swore that he would shoot Yoneya full of holes in their next rank match, if he wouldn't get the chance to do so beforehand.

When Yoneya made a knowing comment about a desk drawer, Izumi growled, "Shut up! I'll find it later, so treat me today. I'll pay you back tomorrow."

"Doesn't that mean you'll never pay me back?"

    "I'll do it, you jerk."

Maybe not tomorrow, depending on the whereabouts of his AWOL paycheck (hadn't he forgotten it in the desk drawer the last time?), but he would someday. Huffing, Izumi shoved his hands inside his jacket pockets as he followed Yoneya into the restaurant. While he didn't care to owe Yoneya any more than he already did, he'd been craving croquettes since the morning.

To which Yoneya had said, "What kind of an idiot craves fried food in the morning?"

He was that kind of an idiot. More importantly, the leftovers he'd brought the other day had been finished off by Tachikawa. It was around then that he must have lost his paycheck in the squad operation room; with a startling realization, it dawned on Izumi that he would not likely be seeing any yen for a while, given the last known location of that precious envelope.

Once they were seated with a plate of croquettes between them (there would be no takeout today, because it wasn't his money, so Tachikawa would have to skip out this time), Izumi helped himself to his share.

"About paying you back tomorrow . . . ," he started at a point the plate was nearly finished, trailing off to draw Yoneya's inquisitive gaze. "I was kidding."

He managed to keep a straight face, even as Yoneya's expression became a distorted frown. It was funny, the way Yoneya seemed to consider the seriousness of his words. In response, Izumi cracked what must have been a self-satisfied grin (it served the spear idiot right).

"It's a joke, idiot! Who'd want your money? What I'm saying is; if I find my paycheck, you'll definitely get your share back, but I'm not making any promises about the time. Who knows where that check went?"

Ever the one to get the last word in, Yoneya made a smart comment and Izumi grunted. What did that matter, though? With a deft maneuver of his chopsticks, he reached for the last croquette.
